WINNERS OF THIRD GREENBELT PHOTO CONTEST CELEBRATED AT MCMICHAEL CANADIAN ART COLLECTION
Winning photos celebrate our connections to the Greenbelt and all it has to offer
On March 25, the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, the Professional Photographers of Canada and the McMichael Canadian Art Collection announced the winners of the Third Greenbelt Photo Contest at a special event at the McMichael, where photos will be exhibited until July 15, 2018.
Selected by a jury of professional photographers and creative employees from the three participating organizations, the winning photographs captured the connections found every day by people visiting, living and working in our protected Greenbelt. Whether connecting with nature while hiking, enjoying farm fresh food, or working the land, these experiences embody the possibilities that grow in Ontario’s Greenbelt, which is as diverse as its people.
The winning photos capture all seasons, with photos of timid swimmers about to take the plunge and a winter canoeist paddling the Eramosa River. Other winners feature active farmland, starry skies, and more than a few birds.
The winning photographers are:
- General Winners: Bailey Dyck (Flowerpot Island Tobermory), Bella Brough (Georgian Bluffs), Dan Copeland (North Highway 5 at Brock Rd), David Coulson (Caledon, Mount Nemo Conservation Area and Rockwood Eramosa River), Ellen Cameron (Mono), Elton Law (Sherman Falls Ancaster), Gabriel Bizeau-Regis (St Catharines), Heather Petre (Grimsby), Kamran Bakhitiari (Cherry Hill Gate), Rob Miller (Walkers Line and Valens Conservation Area), Robert Alsop (Tiffany Falls), Stephen Wright (Pontypool, Scugog and Long Sault Conservation Area), Tom Stephens (Hilton Falls), and Tracy Munson (Cherry Orchard St Catharines)
- Overall Winner: David Coulson (Rouge Park)
- People’s Choice Winner: Jack Starret (Sherman Falls)
In addition to visiting the exhibition at the McMichael Canadian Art Collection, the photos will be available for the public to enjoy on a photo tour throughout the Greenbelt. All the winning photographs can be found at http://www.greenbelt.ca/2018_photo_contest_winners.
