The Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation (ORMF) in partnership with the Greenbelt Foundation is seeking information from interested parties with expertise in the Oak Ridges Moraine (ORM) and/or trail planning on potential approaches to developing a renewed ORM Trail Strategy. The information received may help to develop an RFP aimed at carrying out future planning and other phases.
The Oak Ridges Moraine Foundation and Greenbelt Foundation wish to work with partners to build a modern and strategic framework/strategy (the “Strategy”) through robust research and consultation that will guide future planning, development, and management of the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail.
The ultimate outcome of the strategy will be to support long-term trail sustainability and create a trail-user experience that connects people to the natural and culture heritage as well as Indigenous history of the Oak Ridges Moraine. It should also facilitate usage and visitor experiences that positively contribute to local economies for communities within the ORM Trail geography.
Questions for Respondents
Respondents to this RFI are asked to provide feedback on these key questions:
- What are the key considerations in developing a Trail Strategy and Plan that would assess the current state and identify major issues for inclusion in a Master Plan for the Oak Ridges Moraine, including people, environment, and economy as complements of an ecosystems approach?
- What are contemporary approaches to trail and recreational area development including issues such as securing trail sections and lands?
- What research and consultation methods and timelines would be best suited to developing an ORM Trail Strategy?
- What expertise and resources are necessary to effectively create the ORM Trail Strategy?
- What other important considerations should be considered in development of a Trail Strategy?
- What contributions of expertise and/or services might the respondent be able to make to a (potential) trail strategy development phase?
Information submitted should also be supported by a description of the respondent’s expertise, knowledge, and potential available, as well as (if relevant) possible costing and/or service pricing models.
